News from Lincolnshire and Rutland: EURES from JC+ can support the Compact 30/09/2007

EURES is a scheme run by the Job Centre Plus to help migrant workers find employment in England. The scheme makes it possible for Public Sector organisations to advertise vacancies more widely. The IAG services are supporting this initiative and recently Julia Beard of Prospects sent out this communication to her delivery partners to advise them of the potential of the scheme. Contact Job Centre Plus for more information.

 Julia Beard of prospects writes:

Dear All

Just to make you aware of the EURES service, which is part of Jobcentre Plus and includes a website with links to a database of vacancies within the EU. The purpose of this service is to facilitate free movement of workers within the countries of the European Economic Area and Switzerland.

This may be useful to anyone that is working with people that either wish to work in the EU or people that are returning to mainland Europe to look for work.

The link is http://europa.eu.int/eures and you then click on en to see the information in English. A big advantage of this site is that the information can be viewed in other languages if you have a client that wants to use the site his/herself. I shall be grateful if you will pass this information on to your advisers.RegardsJulia

News from Lincolnshire and Rutland: A message from the Chair 06/09/2007

Writing in the first Newsletter published by the Lincolnshire and Rutland Public Sector Compact, Nigel Howells (Chair of the Steering Group and Chief Executive of East Lindsey District Council) sent out the following message encouraging colleagues to participate in Compact activity;

 Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to report that the Compact has taken root and we are already beginning to see positive results from our collaborative work.  The Compact has established two Theme Groups and their Actions Plans are being developed and implemented and are addressing key issues with respect to Recruitment and Retention and Learning and Development.

The work planned for the coming months includes a number of special events, two of which are being staged at the end of September.  Here we hope to inform Compact members of the availability and access to publicly funded training opportunities.  As with all Compact activity, the success of the initiative depends on the participation and contribution of sector organisations.  May I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and take part in the Clear Wins workshop events (details elsewhere in this newsletter).

 More generally, we encourage key professionals in the sector to become active players in the Compact.  Please consider joining either the Steering Group or one of the Theme Groups.  Contact our facilitator Chris Donkin (chris@donkinitex.co.uk) to declare your particular interest. Hope to be working with you soon.

Nigel Howells (Chief Executive of East Lindsey District Council and Chair of Lincolnshire and Rutland Public Sector Steering Group)

News from Lincolnshire and Rutland: Working with other groups supporting the sector 13/08/2007

Links are being established with other groups with public sector representation that seek to develop collaborative arrangements to address issues of common concern. On behalf of the Compact Chris Donkin has met with the Chair of the “Children’s Workforce Strategy Group” and has also had ameeting with the Project Sponsor of the “Lincolnshire Shared Services Partnership”.

The Children’s Workforce Strategy Group exists to develop partnership approaches to developing an integrated workforce. The Strategy Group is supported by two sub groups whose work is structured around ‘Learning & Development’ and ‘Recruitment & Retention’. There is scope for complementary working between the Compact and the Strategy Group.

The Lincolnshire Shared Services Partnership has recently been formed by local government organisations within Lincolnshire. The Partnership has a ‘Training’ workstream. It’s objectives are to (i) raise the profile of training and development, (ii) collaboratively develop a skilled workforce, (iii) increase efficiency through joint working, (iv) identify and address common needs and (v) develop joint training / development programmes.

A summary of the work of these two groups can be found in the "other documents" section on the L&R page.
