Apprenticeship UpdateNationally, 26% of employed people work in the Public Sector, yet only approximately 10% of apprenticeship programmes are accessed by sector employees. The challenge is to narrow this gap. To meet this challenge, get yourself support from Employer Engagement Services at NAS. Contact Mike Crosby via email - Mike.Crosby@apprenticeships.gov.uk . Alternatively visit the Apprenticeships web site at : http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk

Committment to Skills DevelopmentThe Skills Pledge was a voluntary, public commitment by the leadership of a company or organisation to support all its employees to develop their basic skills, including literacy and numeracy, and work towards relevant, valuable qualifications to at least Level 2. Between 2008 and 2010 almost all the Compact's member organisations signed the Skills Pledge. With the Pledge not being prmoted as actively in these coalition times rather than under the Labour administration, the Compact remains committed to the aim of encouraging all of it's member organisations to make (and honour) a formal committment to skills development. Contact Chris Donkin (chris@donkinitex.co.uk) for more details of this work.

Test the OrganisationFollowing the success of working in partnership with the LSC and the TUC in 2010 to stage 8 'Test the Organisation' events, the Compact is at it again !! This year the Compact in collaboration with the SFA and the TUC are supporting nine 'Test' events. Five public sector and four third sector organisations are testing their workforce to identify numeracy issues and then offer subsequent support.
